Learn more about the changes in Medicare Prescription benefits

Beginning Jan. 1, Medicare started offering prescription drug plans (Medicare Part C and D) with the help of insurance companies and HMOs. Like other insurance coverage, the plans are voluntary and require a premium and co-pays, and costs vary depending upon the plan you select.

Rest assured that Mercy Medical Group is here to help you understand these changes and navigate the system to make sure you continue to receive the best care possible with the least amount of effort. Enrollment for Medicare prescription benefits will continue through May 15, 2006. If you choose not to enroll in a program before May 15, you may be assessed a penalty when you do join at a later date.

In October and November, Mercy Medical Group held special Town Hall Meetings to discuss the Medicare changes in an easy-to-understand format. Attendees received guidance on how to navigate the Medicare system and clarification on how to enroll in a prescription plan. In case you missed these meetings, or want to refer back to the information provided, we’ve posted a portion of the Medicare presentation here for your reference.

In an ongoing effort to assist our senior patients, Mercy Medical Group is offering free one-on-one counseling sessions with our PRICE Clinic representatives to discuss how the Medicare changes will affect you (or a loved one) and how to ensure you continue to receive the best benefits available for you. To make an appointment with the PRICE Clinic, please ask your Primary Care Physician.
