Mercy Medical Group, a service of CHW Medical Foundation, is a rapidly growing, multi-specialty group with more than 170 healthcare providers at nine medical office locations, as well as inpatient hospital care at the local Mercy Hospitals.
As the communities we serve continue to grow, we strive to meet those needs by increasing access to the primary and specialty care physicians our patients need. Sinan Alshahwany, MD – Mercy General Hospital, Hospitalist
Dr. Alshahwany joins Mercy Medical Group’s Hospitalist team at Mercy General Hospital after completing an Internal Medicine Residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. He completed his medical education at Baghdad University, College of Medicine in 1990 and has special clinical interests in Endocrine (DM) and Gastroenterology. Dr. Alshahwany speaks Arabic. For Dr. Alshahwany, seeing a smile on his patient’s face is his utmost joy.
Dakane Billow, MD – Mercy San Juan Medical Center, Hospitalist
Dr. Billow joins Mercy Medical Group’s Hospitalist team at Mercy San Juan Medical Center after completing an Internal Medicine Residency at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ. He completed his medical education at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey in 2000 and speaks Turkish, Swahili and Somali. Dr. Billow believes in taking care of his patients in the best way possible, involving them in the decision-making process of their medical care.
Christine Braid, DO – Fair Oaks, Family Practice
Dr. Braid joins Mercy Medical Group’s Fair Oaks Family Practice team from Downey Regional Medical Center where she completed her Family Practice Residency. She completed her medical education at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003 and is board certified in Family Medicine. She has a special clinical interest in women’s health and preventive medicine and believes that physicians and patients should work as a team to achieve optimum health and well-being.
Lisa Chodak, MD – Timberlake, Obstetrics & Gynecology
Dr. Chodak joins the Timberlake Obstetric and Gynecology team from Women’s Health Resources in Chicago, IL where she’s worked since 2001. She completed her medical education at Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA in 1995, followed by an Obstetric and Gynecology Residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist. Dr. Chodak has a special clinical interest in the area of fertility. Her philosophy of care is recognizing that every person is unique and every patient requires an individualized plan for their medical treatment and health maintenance.
Samuel Hu, MD – Downtown, Orthopedics
Dr. Hu joins the Downtown Orthopedics team after completing an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship and Orthopaedic Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, both at Johns Hopkins University, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, in Baltimore, MD. He completed his medical education at Medical College of Georgia in 1999, followed by an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency. Dr. Hu speaks Mandarin Chinese and enjoys bowling, running and golf in his free time.
Michelle Kelly, MD – San Juan, Pediatrics
Dr. Kelly joins the San Juan Pediatrics team from Kaiser Permanente where she’s worked since 2003. She completed her medical education at University of California, Davis, School of Medicine in 1991, followed by a Pediatric Residency at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Kelly is board certified in Pediatrics and believes in educating patients and their family though all aspects of the child’s health, growth and development.
Roland Mawis, MD – Timberlake, Family Practice
Dr. Mawis joins the Timberlake Family Practice team from Sacramento County Primary Care Clinic where he’s been a physician provider since January. He completed his medical education at Manila Central University in Manila, Philippines in 1983, followed by a Pediatric Residency at Makati Medical Center in Makati City, Philippines, as well as a Family Practice Internship and Residency with the St. Louis University Belleville Family Practice Program. Dr. Mawis is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and speaks Tagolog and some Spanish. His special clinical interests include Diabetes Type 2 and disease prevention. Dr. Mawis’ philosophy of care is “to cure sometimes, to comfort always.” He believes there is never an end to providing care and comfort for his patients.
Ellen Mechling, MFT – Folsom, Behavioral Health
Ellen Mechling joins the Folsom team of providers to offer quality couseling and support for all ages. She believes that emotional issues and physical health problems often go hand in hand. Through careful listening, problem solving and encouragement of growth, she helps her clients face their issues successfully, using a variety of counseling techniques to provide compassionate care for each individual.
Christopher Olson, MD – Folsom, Family Practice
Dr. Olson joins the new Folsom Medical Office Family Practice team from Rhode Island where he’s been in private practice since 2004. He completed his medical education at University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, CT in 2001, followed by an internship and residency at Brown University/Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket, RI. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has special clinical interests in the areas of preventive medicine/well-being and complementary medicine – especially related to the social/philosophical implications of growing public interest in herbal medicines.
Emily Scott, MD – Laguna, Pediatrics
Dr. Scott joins the Laguna Pediatrics team after recently completing a Pediatric Residency Program at University of California, Davis Medical Center. She completed her medical education at University of Vermont College of Medicine, Burlington, VT in 2003. She has been involved with school-based educational programs and health fairs, and has special clinical interests in adolescent care and caring for children with special needs or disabilities. Dr. Scott believes in listening to children and their parents in order to build a relationship of trust through which she can provide compassionate and comprehensive healthcare for each of her patients.
